Water Source Creation in Patiya Village, Gogunda Block
Benefiting 120 Tribal Families through Sustainable Water Management
Addressing a Critical Need
Water scarcity has long been a serious challenge for the tribal communities of Patiya village in Gogunda block, Udaipur district. Families depended on erratic monsoons and faced constant shortages for drinking, agriculture, and livestock needs. To address this pressing issue, Rajasthan Bal Kalyan Samiti (RBKS), in collaboration with the CRISIL Foundation under the Crisil Re Initiative, undertook the construction of an anicut (check dam) to create a sustainable and reliable water source.

| Project Highlight | Details |
|---|---|
| Families Benefited | 120 tribal families with reliable water access |
| Wells Recharged | 20 wells through improved groundwater levels |
| Livestock Supported | 2,000 cattle and birds provided drinking water |
| Farming Enabled | Year-round cultivation, less reliance on monsoons |
| Agricultural Impact | Higher crop yields & increased household incomes |
Project Impact
Reliable Water for Families
The anicut now benefits 120 tribal families, ensuring year-round access to water for domestic use, farming, and livestock care.
Groundwater Recharge
By improving groundwater levels and enhancing retention capacity, the structure directly benefits 20 surrounding wells, creating long-term resilience against drought and water scarcity.
Livestock and Wildlife Support
The project has also ensured safe drinking water for nearly 2,000 cattle and birds. For a livestock-dependent community, this has improved the health, productivity, and survival of animals, easing the burden on farmers who previously traveled long distances to fetch water.
Reviving Agriculture
With reliable irrigation, farmers can now cultivate land throughout the year rather than depending solely on seasonal rains. This has led to:
-
Improved crop yields
-
Enhanced food security for families
-
Increased household incomes, reducing poverty and vulnerability
Socio-Economic Growth
Beyond water security, the initiative has strengthened community resilience, reduced migration pressures, and fostered overall socio-economic development in the village.
Conclusion
The Water Source Creation Project in Patiya village, supported by CRISIL Foundation and implemented by RBKS, is a shining example of how strategic interventions can transform lives. By addressing water scarcity, this initiative has not only improved health and livelihoods but also laid the foundation for sustainable rural development in tribal Rajasthan.
